Making an expat home your own

A couple of months ago I decorated my kids bedrooms. The boys were sharing a room and my little girlmasking tape paint was on her own, so I did lovely individual rooms. Perfection.   Two weeks later my boy & girl twins decided they wanted to share. So my older boy moved into the girls room and I’m left with the task of turning a boys room into a boy/ girl room .

What follows is the result. Which is somewhere between car crash and childish fantasy. The kids like it at least.

The boy twin half

how to paint a skylineI’d already painted the wall blue and done a crazy ‘Power Ranger’ lightening bolt down the wall, but I hated the way the plain blue wall looked. I decided to add some embellishment in the form of a Gotham skyline.

It was super simple just using masking tape & can of paint.

I used Dove Grey paint for the buildings.

Place the tape on the wall in the shape of buildings, I did draw mine first so I had an idea of what it would look like.

Paint within the tape, making sure not to go over the edge. It will need at least two coats.boys bedroom gotham city batman paint

When dry remove tape.

I added some little windows with a small paintbrush and some white paint.

Stuck some Batman stickers I’d bought here on the top, and framed some Avenger prints and this half of the room was done.

I place the beds opposite sides of the room and Polly told me she wanted her wall to be pink. Her sidegrey girls bedroom  was a little tougher as there were two large windows so I couldn’t do a mural. The pony curtains, which I’d bought immediately changed the feel.

First I divided the room using masking tape and painted a dove grey strip along the wall.

Rather than painting the whole ‘girl’ side pink, I stuck with blocks of colour, so using masking tape I painted a pink block around the window.

I left a strip of the original grey and then painted the side wall pink.

Polly was insistent that she wanted stars in her room. So again using my trusty masking tape I created a large Dove Grey and white star.

I had a few decorations and some bunting to complete the look.

So one room; 6 colours: grey, blue, light grey, orange white and pink… not colours Id have planned to go together, but as long as the kids are smiling its ok by me.

Now off to make the former girls room into a Batman/Star Wars den… without having to repaint everything from scratch.

Any ideas.. let me know.
